Former Bryanston School student and rugby player Maverick Goodchild is all about trying new sports and exploring all career opportunities.

Maverick passed his GCSEs and continued his education at Bryanston, studying A-Level Business, Psychology and Physical Education. It was through his sister, who had already attended Rockley’s Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Adventure) course where he heard about Rockley’s Apprenticeship programme.

“It’s a great environment and everyone is really close.”

FROM THE RUGBY PITCH TO THE WATER

Maverick has also played rugby for much of his life, having represented Bath Academy as well as playing for southwest England under 20s County and his current team - Bournemouth first team. Rugby is clearly his first love and passion but having dabbled in a few water activities – paddleboarding an canoeing, he is now loving these new-found sports - particularly windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Maverick is proof that Rockley’s apprenticeship programme is welcoming of all individuals – you don’t need to have attended Rockley College or necessarily have any specific qualifications. Passion, desire and a love of sport and the outdoors in general are equally as important. When asked why he was selected out of 30 plus candidates, Clare Hicks, Head of Education said:

“He was selected because of his strong sporting background in rugby, his enthusiasm to progress in new activities and his fun and lively personality. He will make a great instructor when he has the skills.”
