For five decades, school groups have stepped off coaches and onto the water, into woodland and onto high ropes with Rockley. Behind every sailing session, climbing activity, and team challenge is something that matters most to parents and teachers alike. Safety.

As we mark 50 years of delivering school adventure programmes across our centres, we are proud that our strongest legacy is not just memorable experiences, but a consistent commitment to safeguarding and risk management.

SAFETY IS NOT JUST AN ADD-ON. IT'S THE FOUNDATION

Every activity begins long before students arrive. Risk Assessments are reviewed and updated. Equipment is inspected. Weather forecasts are monitored. Staff briefings are thorough.

For teachers organising trips, we understand the weight of responsibility. You are trusting us with your students. That trust is never taken lightly.

Our procedures are clear, documented and embedded into daily practice. From a buoyancy aid correctly fitted at Poole Park, to safety boat cover at Rockley Point, to harness checks on the high ropes at Buddens, systems are consistent and uncompromising.

EXPERIENCED QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORS

Longevity matters. Many of our senior team members have decades of experience delivering watersports and outdoor education. That depth of knowledge cannot be replicated overnight.

Our instructors are fully qualified and trained in not only daily activity, but in safeguarding, emergency procedures, and group management. They are used to working with a range of ages, abilities and additional needs.

Calm decision-making, clear communication and strong supervision are non-negotiable expectations.

ENVIRONMENTS DESIGNED FOR PROGRESSIVE LEARNNING

Each centre provides a structured environment where activities can be delivered safely and progressively.

At Budden’s Activity Centre, land-based activities are designed with controlled progression in mind. Students build skills step by step under close supervision.

At Poole Park, the sheltered setting offers an ideal space for introductory sailing, allowing young people to gain confidence in a contained environment.

At Rockley Point, sessions are carefully planned to match group ability and conditions, with safety craft and qualified staff always maintaining oversight.

Adventure does not mean unmanaged risk; it means structured challenge.

CLEAR COMMUNICATION WITH SCHOOLS

We work closely with teachers from the initial enquiry to the final debrief.

Pre-visit information is detailed and transparent. Activity plans are shared. Staffing ratios are clear. Medical and additional support needs are discussed in advance.

During your visit, our team leaders remain accessible and responsive. If conditions change, plans are adapted. If a student needs additional support, it is managed professionally and discreetly.

You remain part of the process at every stage.

50 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Safety is not static. Over 50 years, standards, qualifications and industry expectations have evolved. So have we.

Policies are reviewed. Training is refreshed. Equipment is upgraded. Lessons are learned and applied.

The reason schools return year after year is not just because students have fun. It is because teachers feel confident in the systems behind the scenes.

ADVENTURE WITH ASSURANCE

Outdoor education plays a wonderful role in developing resilience, teamwork and confidence. But none of that is possible without a secure foundation. For 50 years, Rockley has combined meaningful challenge with professional oversight.

As you plan your next school adventure trip, know that our first priority is the well-being of the young people in our care.

Adventure is what students remember. Safety is what makes it possible.
