After completing A-Levels in psychology, sociology and chemistry at Corfe Hills School, Tomas then decided to follow a completely different path and applied for Rockley’s Outdoor Instructor Apprenticeship.

Tomas enjoys plenty of outdoor sports with climbing, paddleboarding and surfing being amongst his favourite. “I’ve always loved being outdoors – walking and mountain biking. I also love the water, qualifying as a beach lifeguard after my A-Levels.”

“I’m really enjoying it and learning loads of new stuff. There’s a lot of practical work and I’m finding it really challenging which what makes it so enjoyable.”

Currently based at Buddens Activity Centre, Tomas and his fellow apprentices are already getting fully qualified in a multitude of outdoor activities as well as three paddlesport disciplines.

Since September, Tomas is already running rope, teambuilding and paddle sessions and recognises that he’s “come a long way since training started.”

Asked whether Tomas is confident in his role leading sessions to young people: “The confidence is growing the more I’m learning, plus I’m a bit of a child anyway, so I can relate to them!”
