Outdoor education and sports are her absolute passion! Having dabbled in a host of different activities like sailing, surfing and sea kayaking she is currently really enjoying paddleboarding and mountain biking in her free time. Sophie grew up on the beach so loves being in the water, but she also loves to climb mountains in North Wales or Scotland whenever she can escape! She describes her new role at Rockley as her 'dream job' as it combines teaching with her hobbies and interests! So far she is absolutely loving it! We find out a little more.....
Three people (at any time in history) you would invite round for dinner?
Ernest Shackleton (one of history’s greatest leader and explorer – after being stranded in the Antarctic in 1915 with a crew of 28, his incredible leadership led to everyone surviving the year and a half ordeal), Ben Fogle (a more modern expeditioner who has travelled across the world meeting a host of people living in remote and fantastic places), Laura Bingham (lead the first source to mouth descent of the Essequibo River in Guyana and is a fantastic role model for young women in the outdoors). I think we would have an evening of story swapping and inspiring tales!
Your biggest indulgence?
My campervan!
What would you perfect day be if time, travel and money were not an issue?
Breakfast in Paris (the fresh croissants!) followed by hiking in the Alps, Lunch in Italy (pizza obviously) and paddleboarding along the Amazon, Dinner in Sri Lanka (the traditional curries are unreal) and star gazing in the Sahara to finish the day!
Mantra you live by?
Take pride in how far you have come and how far you can go.
If you could be any sports person, who would you be?
A hard one! Currently I am really impressed by Tahnee Seagrave the British mountain biker, what an athlete!
Water or mountains?
Mountains preferably but only because they are less available with living in the south west!
Finish the sentence…. Before I die…
.....I would love to climb a substantial peak like Kilimanjaro, Mount Elbrus or the Matterhorn.
