In applying for work experience positions students are often expected to complete an application form and attend an interview both of which are good preparation for when then they go through application processes for further education courses or jobs in the future.
Real-life experience
While on work experience students will gain an insight into the diversity of employees in the workplace and prepare them for the demands and expectations of the working world, which is very different to their classroom experience. Their work placement will give them the opportunity to learn new skills, broaden their knowledge of jobs they may not have considered or known about previously, increase awareness of their own skills and strengths and help them appreciate the skills needed to succeed in certain jobs.
Work Experience will provide students with experience for their CV and provide referees, may put them in contact with potential employers and provide a good link between school and the local community.
Student benefits
The students on our Rockley Education programmes are given the opportunity to apply and take part in work experience at our centres in France. This certainly helps them see first hand what working in an outdoor activity centre is like and also the opportunity of travel to another country. All students have to complete an application form and are interviewed as part of the process with their behaviour and commitment to study for their course also taken into account. We find our students really do ‘grow up’ through their work experience and they often return with a new found confidence and independence which benefits their future progress, achievements and employment opportunities in the future.
