A safe and positive classroom environment
Within each of our classrooms, the Rockley Education teaching team create a safe space for learning through the creation of excellent relationtionships with our students. As the learning journey in both their academic studies and practical tuition begins, students are encouraged to express their ideas and thoughts free from the fear of failure. They are also challenged and supported in equal measure through highly stimulating classroom and practical activities. This environment helps our students develop resilient attitudes built upon a stable mental state.
Being a student at Rockley Education also provides many opportunities outside of the classroom including the chance to undertake work experience in France and the potential for them to gain employment abroad within the organisation. These incentives are used to help motivate students and provide precious moments to celebrate achievements, reflecting on their progress throughout their learning journey. A highly valuable strategy in maintaining excellent mental wellbeing.
Physical activity and mental wellbeing
With the cohesive set up of the Rockley Education programmes, in addition to students time in the classroom, each student undertakes a comprehensive schedule of guided learning hours participating in over 10 hours a week of practical outdoor and adventurous activities. Recent evidence from Sport England's "Active Lives Children and Young People Survey" saw that as physical activity levels increased in young people, so did their mental wellbeing score. An excellent piece of evidence to support a philosophy deeply rooted in what Rockley believes in.
Supporting each individual Student
Complimenting the positive culture and proactive strategies to maintain a positive state of mental wellbeing, Rockley also provides additional support structures for every student. Each student is assigned one of the trained teachers in the Rockley Education team as their dedicated Personal Tutor. The role allows staff and students to engage on a level beyond academic teaching and provide guidance, support and encourages students to talk about anything that could be affecting their experience at Rockley.
Safeguarding and welfare
Overseeing the meticulously constructed model for the mental wellbeing of our students is Liz McMaster, our Safeguarding and Wellfare Lead. Liz, with a detailed eye and skilled focus, takes the time to analyse and reflect on every component part of a student’s college experience. This enables Rockley to continually seek ways to further improve its practices and promote the best environment for a student’s mental wellbeing.
From safeguarding and current affairs, seminars to exercises of mindfulness and Progressive Muscular Relaxation, Rockley Education will continue to support every student to be in the best possible mental state for their education and life beyond college life.
