One of the things we have prided ourselves on, is creating trips that are fun, safe, challenging and don’t require much in the way of specialist equipment, apart from what we provide of course! This has meant that we have been able to offer activity trips that are as accessible to as many people as possible since we don’t require our youngsters to provide much more than enthusiasm, energy and clothes they don’t mind getting wet and probably a bit mucky!

Having said all that, as many of our activities are water-based, there are probably a number of, relatively, inexpensive items that make participating in our trips that much more comfortable, and dare we say it, even more enjoyable.

PACKING FOR THE WATER

WETSUIT: As many of our activities are based around watersports, a wetsuit either a full wetsuit - long legs and arms or a shortie - short legs and arms is a real no brainer. Understandably, this might be a major purchase but it will be worth it as it means this can form the basis for participating in all our watersports activities, negating the need for lots of changes of clothes and the hassle of trying to get these dried for the next day (not something most youngsters are adept at doing!)

RASH VEST: Perfect for water activities, this tight-fitting, thin top is made of quick-drying synthetic material, perfect for all water activities. A rash vest is ideal for when it is too hot for a wetsuit, and is a great substitute for a t-shirt. It dries quickly - perfect for the following day's activities and also protects against harmful UV rays, therefore no need to worry about them constantly reapplying suntan lotion.

WETSUIT SHOES: As closed toe shoes are required for a watersports adventure, these are an ideal addition to your packing list. Again, quick drying and perfect for all water activities, the basic slip on version has a toggle to tighten and can be purchased at a very reasonable price. They are practical and can be used again for beach holidays. They also save any trainers or pumps from getting wet, which can take ages to dry!

PACKING FOR THE LAND

Keep it simple and keep it practical! Nothing fancy or expensive, in fact, as we are outdoors, packing anything you don't mind getting dirty or wet is key! We always recommend layers of clothing to account for the changing weather and temperatures.

There are just some things you cannot do without and these include:

LESS IS MORE

Your child’s Group Leader or our Final joining instructions will have lots of hints and tips on what is sensible to bring and what to pack for one of our residential activity trips. There is also lots of useful information on our website. The adage “less is more" is a good thing to have in mind, and try to discourage your youngster from taking anything that is valuable or clothes that are ‘smart’. Our trips are active and likely to involve lots of running around outside, so, suitable clothing should be comfortable, sporty, stretchy, quick drying and inexpensive!
