While Peter is a regular on the water with his family, teaching the ladies at Parkstone Yacht Club and racing every Monday with the Laser fleet, it's a rare ocassion that he's seen teaching at Rockley Point! Last week saw him helping instruct this year's Leap for Success students. During their time thus far, the Leaps have had a few obstacles to contend with, mainly the Beast and Mini Beast from the East, but this appears to have not dampened their mood or hindered their determination to succeed. Their drive and good spirit did not go unnoticed by Peter who really enjoyed his time getting back to doing what he loves the most - teaching!
“Recently I helped out on a Dinghy Instructor course that was being run for our Leap for Success candidates and what a week it was. Rain, wind and freezing, just what I wanted!
But a great week it was nonetheless. All of our Leap candidates are midway through a journey with us to become fully qualified Dinghy Instructors and Windsurfing Instructors and they all arrived with differing levels of sailing ability, from none to a lot. But what they all had in common was an amazing attitude which shone through day after day.
At the end of the week some passed and others got action plans to complete. Those that had action plans were awesome instructors but just needed a bit more time on the water to improve their wind awareness. This week they are starting their windsurfing and there is no better way than improving your wind awareness than by windsurfing.
The Leap for Success course is the brainchild of Kat Sargent, who heads up our HR, and from my perspective it is an unqualified success, we have 11 amazing individuals eager to get to work for us and to start teaching sailing and windsurfing, both here and in France. Bring on the summer!! (Seriously, bring on summer…..)"
