This year's Dorset School Games saw hundred's of primary and secondary pupils from over 20 Dorset-based schools attend this fantastic event at Poole Park Lake. Held over four days, this completely free event included a 2-day sailing regatta as well as the 2-day 'Can Do' Festival.

The sailing regatta involved a Challenge Fleet for novice sailors as well as a Gold Fleet for the more experienced sailors. Both the primary school day, held on the Tuesday and the secondary school day, which was held on the Wednesday saw pupils compete in a series of regatta style races. It seemed fitting that the final race of the day began with the most brilliant start and a very exciting finish.

“It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoy sailing. There was great competitive spirit amongst the children as well as great support for their classmates.”

Sara Holt, Rockley Sales & Games Organiser

The 'Can Do Festival' which was held the following week saw many enthusiastic young people take to the waters to enjoy kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and raft building. They also had the opportunity to enjoy various land-based sports including cricket, volleyball and football. Each of the two days saw a series of afternoon kayaking races, culminating in a final race which saw both individuals and schools achieve top three medal places.

“Thank you so much for the Can Do Festival last week, the kids honestly loved it and thrived being there. Equally, a big thank you for the Regatta too, what a great event for the kids to showcase all their learnt skills. The hard work from yourselves and the Rockley team does not go unnoticed and we feel very grateful for being invited.”

Jack, St Mary's Catholic Primary School

A massive thank you to all the teachers who came to Poole Park Lake and a huge congratulations to all the young people who took part. It was great to see so many gain in confidence throughout the day, enjoy each others company and take real joy in getting out on the water. While not everyone can win, there was a hugely positive competitive spirit and a real camaraderie amongst the pupils throughout the four days.

We look forward to hosting the event in June 2024 and hope that you can join us!
