It's a Family Affair

In just a few days time, Matt and his dad will be embarking on a new adventure as they prepare to take part in this year’s Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) race.

Some seven years in the making, father and son have been thinking about this race for some time, and while neither have done a lot of offshore sailing they have both got their RYA Day Skipper qualifications.

“It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we both wanted to do for a long time.”

A 'must do' race

The ARC is considered a 'must-do' race by sailors all over the world. It attracts over 200 boats and thousands of people every year to sail the 2700 nautical miles from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia.

Matt and his Dad will join experienced charter skipper Richard, who will be completing his 21st transatlantic plus five other crew members onboard Emily of Cowes. She is a twin-ruddered, Elan 450, that comes with spacious cabins, a well-equipped galley, fishing gear and solar-powered water maker.

In a few days, they will all fly out to the Canary Islands to get acquainted with the boat and crewmembers before starting the race on Sunday 19th November 2023.
