Freya discovered Rockley at a careers event aimed at young sailors and immediately felt drawn to the Outdoor Adventure pathway.
When she visited the college during an open event in Year 10, she met Helena for the first time. The two hit it off immediately, swapping Snapchats and realising they were both seriously considering Rockley as their next step.
“We basically knew we were both going,” Freya laughs.
Life at a College That Feels Like an Adventure
Like her friends, Freya is still amazed at how different Rockley feels from school.
“I don’t believe this is college,” she says about her practical days on the beach.
From football and rugby on the sand to spontaneous summer crabbing at lunchtime, her week involves far more time outdoors than in classrooms, and she loves it.
“Everyone becomes friends so quickly,” she says. “It’s such a sociable place.”
Trying New Sports & Building New Skills
Even as an experienced sailor, Freya has jumped into new activities with enthusiasm.
Mountain biking quickly became a standout favourite, surprising her by being more fun, and less physically demanding, than she expected.
Next Stop: The Super Yacht Industry
Freya already has her sights set firmly on the superyacht industry. Her goal is to start her career as a watersports instructor, building experience and qualifications on the water before progressing into life onboard a mega yacht as a deckhand.
Drawn to the fast-paced, international lifestyle, she’s excited by the opportunity to work as part of a professional crew, travel the world and develop a long-term career at sea. With a strong background in sailing and a growing skill set from her time at Rockley, Freya feels confident she’s on the right path toward turning that ambition into reality.
Her Advice to Younger Students
“You gain so much here, friends, experiences, and confidence. You’re not wasting an opportunity coming to Rockley.”
And her favourite summary of the experience?
“Best decision I’ve made.”
