When we moved into our brand-new centre in the beautiful Dorset countryside, at the forefront of our minds was to create a residential centre that considers and respects the natural surroundings. This makes it the ideal base for young people to learn and appreciate the natural environment. Our natural environment, whether that be on the water or in the forest is where we work and where we teach which is why we are so passionate about conserving it. Here are some of the things we have been working on to ensure we protect our environment for generations to come!

Recycling facilities

We have worked closely with the local council to ensure that we have the best recycling facilities in place located appropriately around our centre to make it easy for you to recycle your waste. Although we try to use as many sustainable products as possible and have reduced our waste by buying in bulk we recycle anything that can be!

Environmentally friendly cleaning products

When buying in our cleaning products we make sure that we buy in bulk, with as little plastic as possible and make sure they are planet friendly! So, when you go to wash your hands you will be protecting the planet too!

Learning in the natural environment

When developing our activities, we have tried to include our natural surroundings as much as possible. For example; whilst den building or bell boating young people will learn and develop a respect for the environment that they are working in. We always aim to make everything we teach as fun as possible so the memories of an outdoor experience, any positive experience may very well impact the decisions young people make in the future and the way they treat the world they live in.

Living with nature

When looking at our accommodation options we decided to take it back to basics and live within our natural environment as much as possible. Camping gives the perfect opportunity to connect with nature in an environmentally friendly way.

Refill points

We encourage all our guests to bring your own water bottle and we make it really easy to refill them! There are many drinking water stations located all around the campsite so you can refill whenever you need to! This reduces plastic waste around the site.

Locally sourced products

When catering for all our young people we aim to use as many local suppliers as possible to reduce the carbon footprint of our food. We also ensure as little food waste as possible. We cook nutritious, healthy meals with vegetarian and vegan options always available.

These are just some of the ways that Rockley are considering the environment in both our existing centres and our new ventures! Feel free to get in touch with new ideas to help us care for our planet.
