1. Developing independence

Going on a residential trip encourages students to step out of their comfort zone and embrace the world without their parents. For many children, a school trip will be the first time that they are away from their family, which aids social development through creating bonds with their peers and use initiative to problem solve.

2. Improved confidence and self esteem

Whilst on an adventure trip students will overcome challenges and achieve things that they did not think possible. This gives them a large confidence boost that they can take into other areas of their life and learning.

3. Improved teacher and student relationships

Once outside of the classroom and in an unfamiliar environment, pupils often see teachers in a different light and positive relationships are formed. Teachers getting involved in activities alongside their pupils breaks down barriers of the more formal pupil- teacher relationship. When back in the classroom after the trip, pupils are more engaged with their teachers as they have a new found respect for them.

4. Engaging hard to motivate students

Students who struggle in a classroom environment are often the ones who come into their own in an outdoor setting. In 2008 an Ofsted report concluded that taking students out of the classroom and into a more interactive environment was an excellent way to engage those students who find academic work challenging.

5. Making lifelong memories

Ask many adults and the memory that stands out the most from school is a trip away! Students view the world differently, see different cultures and a school residential trip may ignite a passion for travel, adventure or working abroad.

These are just a few of many benefits for students when they go on a school residential. Get in touch to find out more about the ways our trips can benefit your students and give them the adventure of a lifetime.
