General Kitchen Assistant

Job Role Summary

We’re looking for a friendly, reliable General Kitchen Assistant / Kitchen Porter to join our catering team at Buddens Activity Centre. Our kitchen is a large marquee-style setup, and we provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for up to 600 staff and clients each week.

This is a hands-on role in a busy, lively environment, perfect for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves to help things run smoothly.

The catering team are at the heart of the centre - ensuring a high standard of food preparation, providing nutritious food, looking after clients.

Role Summary

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Supporting the Chef team with the preparation and service of meals
  • Helping deliver breakfast, lunch, and dinner to large groups of guests and staff
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, tidy, and well-organised, including washing up and cleaning equipment
  • Making sure food hygiene and cleanliness standards are always met
  • Working safely in a high-volume kitchen within an outdoor activity centre setting
  • Helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all staff and clients on site
  • Following Buddens’ safety procedures, policies, and operating procedures
  • Taking part in induction and any required training
  • Pitching in with general kitchen duties to support the wider catering team


HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety guidelines always
  • Use kitchen equipment safely, especially in a marquee-style kitchen environment
  • Report any hazards, accidents, or equipment issues promptly

Skills & Experience

ESSENTIAL

  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to help
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Good attention to cleanliness, hygiene, and safety
  • Reliable, punctual, and happy to take direction
  • Physically able to manage the demands of a practical, active role
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen, catering, or hospitality role
  • Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to complete training
  • Experience working with large groups or in a high-volume kitchen
  • An interest in outdoor activity centres, hospitality, or seasonal work
